The Wonderful World of Book Trailers

I've recently discovered book trailers - and some of these are quite simply nothing short of amazing. This sort of thing makes sense and excites me. I find myself looking forward to the day when I can present one of my very own. In the meantime, please enjoy some of the ones I find the most interesting. I fully intend to purchase at least some of these titles for my Nook as soon as possible.

In like a lion. A newbie lion.

I'm not new to writing, but I'm certainly new to blogging - and most other forms of social media. If you happen to stumble upon my blog while in its infancy, I apologize now.  Just getting that out of the way.  Bear with me as I learn my way around, poke under some rocks, sniff the air, do some marking of my own here and there.  I'm floored -and admittedly daunted- by how great some of the blogs I come across in here are.  I can't promise anything near as advanced as all that just yet; but I have faith in myself.

Firstly, though this post of mine may never be read, glimpsed, glanced at, or even covered over by dirt - I want to thank an author by the name of H.P. Mallory, who wrote an awesome book that now pretty much serves as my writing bible and finally got me motivated.  I've been writing for upwards of fifteen (15) years now - and those stories have been written and re-written countless times.  H.P. Mallory's book - I'll tell you which one in a minute - could very well change my stagnant writing life.

For Christmas I received a Nook Color - something I had been walking by suspiciously for awhile.  I didn't want to like them.  I felt that they would spell doom for all paper books.  Stepping through the door of any Barnes and Noble meant that I had to come face to face with the infernal machines.  I would walk around them, giving the kiosk a wide berth.  I didn't want to seem even slightly interested.  Technology.  Hmph.  Maybe if I ignored them, they would go away.  Dissipate into thin air.  Spontaneously combust.  Anything.  I was a paper book snob; and proud of it.

Books should stay old school.

Yeah.

Right.

Maybe one day I'll tell you just how Mom ended up with her Amazon Kindle - and how I ended up with my Nook Color.  Yeah, that's it.  TWO of the blasted things.  Now she sits at her house perusing her favorite magazines and I'm a state away in my own home searching for new authors to read.  Nook and Kindle have restored what we both had lost - the FREEDOM to read.  I will never give up my paper books - but I don't know what I'd do without my Nook, either.  I owe this thing an apology.

Seeing the endless titles laid out before me - books I didn't even know existed - just blew my mind.  Suddenly, the Nook became my own private library.  For pennies or less,  I could read some pretty good stories; pick up up a decent book for less than $10.00 - and never misplace it.  My Nook Color is wrapped in faux leather, looks every bit like a book - and occupies a sacred spot on the end table right next to where I sit on the couch. Its there every single day, faithfully waiting.

My Nook led me to an author named H.P. Mallory.  She's a bestselling author of urban fantasy/paranormal romance books - but there's one book she's got out that deserves some serious attention too.

"How I Sold 200,000 E-Books" is a guide for those who wish to self publish.  Mallory writes in such a way that it was easy for me to get hooked and follow her instruction, despite having loads of other things on my mind.  She's clear, concise, energetic and genuine.  I don't get the feel from this author that she's just trying to sell you a book, nor that she sees her 'students' as competition down the road.  No, Mallory writes as if she's speaking directly to you, face to face, across a good cup of joe.  This is not so much a story of how she managed to sell all those books as it is a gentle 'instruction manual" to help others navigate the world of self-publishing.  I have utilized this 75 page book almost every single day since the moment I bought it - using it to answer questions that pop into my head or as a guide leading me step by step to my desired outcome.  Now, I may never in my life sell 20 books, let alone 200,000 - but H.P. Mallory sure does give me the motivation and the drive to want to achieve that and more.  I haven't purchased any of her other books just yet - but I can tell you this much:  I trust her for a good read, so I bet you can too.  ;)

Here's a link to H.P. Mallory's website.  Want that book I just told ya about?  Click on the "For Writers" tab there.  I hope I'm doing this right:

Now, I'm done for the day with this blogging stuff.  I need coffee and one less dog begging me to go outside right now.  In the meantime, happy blogging folks.
